The Band

The Manimals are not a cult- they’re just a regular New York City band teaching their acolytes how to find transcendence at the rock gig, of course. They have been making uniquely genre-fluid music since 2011, but its hallmarks include big pop hooks, messy punk attitude, and glam rock spectacle. Inspired in equal parts by David Bowie and Kesha, horror movies and drag queens, myths and psychedelia, they live somewhere between deeply stupid and absolutely genuine. Led by the irrepressibly entertaining Haley Bowery (who is often covered in blood), The Manimals are a party and a queer fever dream wrapped in a messiah complex (but in a fun way!)

THE SONG

The new single “Modern Muse” is a retro powerpop odyssey to the Underworld- the tragic tale of an indie sleaze-era party girl, set to a beat she can shake it to. In the ashes of a dying rock n roll scene, the muse to the narcissistic rock god is used up and spit out, in exchange for the “eternal life” granted by the songs she’s inspired. With a nostalgic groove, swaggering vocals, and a hooky three-part harmony refrain, The Manimals ask us to dance the horrors away.

The Video

Manimals drummer Trevor Walker has created a creepy retro-pulp lyric video using B-movies, cartoons, and live footage of the band. Released on December 12, 2023.
